Description

Harvesting metadata from experiments requires an understanding of a particular experimental workflow and a deep integration to the control systems of the instruments to create "gluing tools" which can automatically extract relevant meta-data. The other aspect is the integration and use of metadata in downstream processing which can give immediate benefit to users. On the engineering side there is a desire to have flexible and customisable toolsets which can be applied to multiple cases.

The presentations in this workshop aim to introduce some requirements and implementation ideas for metadata collection and use with some real use cases. This should be useful for system specialists and scientists and encourage them to innovate their own use cases in a dialogue and realise the benefits of metadata.
