Description
Pierre Kern, Graduate of the École Supérieure d’Optique Pierre Kern holds his PhD in Astrophysics and Space Technology from the University of Paris 7.
Research engineer at the Institut de Planétologie et d'Astrophysique de Grenoble (IPAG) he is a specialist in high angular resolution optics for astrophysics. He contributes to large developments for adaptive optics and interferometry programs, notably for the VLT (Very Large Telescope) of ESO (European Southern Observatory).
Pierre Kern has also played an essential role in the emergence of a research activity on innovative technologies in micro-optics and guided optics applied to instrumentation in astrophysics, contributing to the recognition of the Astro-photonics theme at the international level. He was Technical Director of LAOG (formerly IPAG). He set up and was Scientific and Technical Director of the LabEx FOCUS dedicated to the development of new generation detectors for observation in Astrophysics. He is currently Deputy Technical Director at CNRS/INSU (Institut National des Sciences de l’Univers).
