High-resolution Neutron Spin Echo (NSE) Spectroscopy represents an obvious gap in the first round of instruments at ESS. Currently, we are preparing a community-driven science case for a future NSE at ESS, to be submitted as input to the ESS Instrument Roadmap in February 2026.
In this workshop, we aim to focus on scientific perspectives for future impactful research with NSE. The central goal is to assemble scientific topics and agendas suitable for a broad-interest, interdisciplinary high-resolution NSE spectrometer at ESS. In particular, we aim to include perspectives from soft matter, life sciences as well as magnetism and hard materials science.
The workshop will naturally also offer opportunities to discuss design details in connection to science cases, but as the general specifications for a NSE spectrometer are worked out, we intend to keep the workshop as much centered around scientific opportunities as possible.
The workshop also present the kick-start for the writing phase of the instrument input - this process will be discussed during the workshop as well, and we hope to form a strong writing group representing the full user community.
