DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the ESS Data Management and Scientific Computing (D
MSC) Summer School 2026!\nThe school will take place in Lyngby\, Denmark\,
from 24-28 August 2026\, with a welcome reception on the afternoon of 23
August. The programme also includes a tour of the ESS facilities in Lund\,
Sweden\, as well as a poster session.\nOrganised by the European Spallat
ion Source (ESS)\, the summer school invites participants to explore the r
ole of data throughout the entire scientific lifecycle - from proposal to
publication.\nThe role of data in neutron scattering is evolving\, with in
creasing emphasis on data reduction and analysis\, as well as on FAIR (Fin
dable\, Accessible\, Interoperable\, and Reusable) and open data principle
 s. As a result\, neutron scattering scientists must develop a thorough und
erstanding of how data underpin their experiments and how to effectively u
se the tools that maximise its scientific value.\nThis summer school provi
des comprehensive training across the full ESS Data Pipeline\, equipping p
articipants with the knowledge and skills needed to manage\, analyse\, and
exploit neutron data effectively.\n \n\n \nThe programme will feature l
ectures and hands-on workshops covering topics such as:\n* Using Python fo
r scientific computing* Data management and the role of data in beam time
proposals* Simulation of neutron scattering experiments* Modern data reduc
tion and analysis techniques* The importance of scientific metadata and re
 producibility\nRegistrations open: 16 March
\nRegistrations close: 1 Jun
e\n Applicants are required to submit an abstract as part of the applica
tion process.\nApplicants must also bring a printed A0 (physical) poster (
portrait orientation) corresponding to the submitted abstract for presenta
tion during the poster session.\nOnly registrations submitted with a relev
ant abstract will be considered valid and reviewed for acceptance. Applica
nts will be notified of the outcome shortly after the application deadline
. Registrations submitted without an abstract will not be considered compl
ete.\nThere is no registration fee. Lunches and all social events\, includ
ing the conference dinner\, are provided free of charge.\nParticipants are
expected to cover their own travel\, accommodation\, and some evening mea
 l expenses.\n\nhttps://indico.ess.eu/event/3961/
