The 5th ISSE Sample Environment Training School

Europe/Stockholm
Description

Introduction

The 5th International Society for Sample Environment (ISSE) Training School will provide a mixture of practical training and lectures on sample environment (SE) for neutron and X-ray sciences.

The school is intended for early career SE staff, graduate students, and postdoctoral researchers based at user facilities. The program offers a combination of practical lectures and hands-on exercises to develop basic SE skills.

Topics covered amongst others will be cryogenics, high pressure, gas handling, electrochemistry, design, safety...

Venue

The school will be held at the European Spallation Source in Lund, Sweden

Registration

There are 20 places for students available in person, and lectures will also be streamed live for those not able to attend. To help with selection in the case of oversubscription, we ask that all student applicants include a short letter of support from their institute. Places on the course will be confirmed once the registration period has closed.

The deadline for registration as an in-person student has now closed. Registration as an online participant is still available.

Accommodation

There are plenty of accommodation options in downtown Lund available from the usual websites.

A discount code (330889) is available for Motel L (3 stops on the tram from ESS) another nearby alternative is Forskarhotellet.

Travel

ESS is easily accessibly by public transportation, and there are regular rail connections to Lund Central from Copenhagen Airport. Tickets can be bought using the Skanetrafiken app, group discounts are available.

Fees

There will be no participation fee for the school. Lunches and a social evening (including dinner) will be provided. Other meals, travel, and accommodation should be covered by your home institute.
