DMSC Summer School 2025
Room 113/117
Data Management and Software Center
Welcome to ESS Data Management and Software Centre (DMSC) Summer School 2025!
The school will be held in Lyngby, Denmark from the 25th to the 29th August 2025, with on-site registration and welcome reception on the afternoon of the 24th.
This summer school is being organised by the European Spallation Source. We invite applications for participation to learn about the role of your data, from proposal to publication.
The role of data in neutron scattering is changing, with greater importance being placed on data reduction and analysis, as well as FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable) and open data. Therefore, neutron scattering scientists must be trained to understand fully the role that data has in their experiments and how to harness the tools that maximise the value of their data. This summer school will provide that training, covering the full ESS Data Pipeline.
There will be lectures/workshops on subjects including:
- Using Python for scientific computing
- Data management and the role of data in the beamtime proposal
- Simulating neutron scattering experiments
- Modern reduction and analysis of data
- The importance of scientific metadata and reproducibility
There will also be a tour of the ESS facilities in Lund, Sweden, as well as a poster session. Therefore, we ask that you include a poster abstract with your application. To ensure a low student-to-teacher ratio, the number of places is limited.
Application close: June 15th
Application remains open as there are still places available, though there is no longer time to help if a visa is required.
Valid registrations with appropriate abstract will be informed that they are accepted shortly.
Some have registred without submitting an abstract, these are not considered valid registrations, but can still submit a poster abstract to be considered.
Sadly our funding requests for accommodation have not been successful, so participants will have to find their own accommodation. We have however found some opportunities for participants to apply for travel funds. Furthermore participants traveling from France can request travel support from 2FDN.
Thanks to our sponsors, there is no registration fee, and lunch, social events, including the conference dinner are all provided free of charge.
